We are pleased to announce the signing of a contract for the installation of Proteus®PLUS, the next-generation proton therapy system developed by IBA (Ion Beam Applications), at The Catholic University of Korea Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital. The agreement was finalized in November 2025 and marks an important step in expanding proton therapy capabilities in Korea.
Established in 1980, Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital is one of Korea’s leading tertiary referral hospitals, providing excellence in clinical care, research, and medical education. The Department of Radiation Oncology delivers precise and safe radiation treatments to cancer patients using advanced technologies, including state-of-the-art linear accelerators and highly sophisticated radiotherapy systems. Supported by multidisciplinary collaboration and extensive clinical expertise, the hospital continues to provide patient-centered, personalized cancer care.
Proteus®PLUS, developed by IBA, is an advanced proton therapy system designed to deliver highly precise radiation to tumors using proton beams. Utilizing a spot-by-spot pencil beam scanning technique, the system accurately delivers proton beams conforming to the shape of the tumor, significantly reducing radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissues while enhancing treatment precision. This approach ultimately enables more effective and highly targeted radiation therapy for patients.
The Department of Radiation Oncology at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital has selected Proteus®PLUS to meet the growing demand for advanced cancer treatments and to provide patients with world-class proton therapy. Notably, the hospital plans to implement Adaptive Proton Therapy—a global-first clinical approach designed to account for anatomical changes in tumors during the course of treatment. In addition, it will introduce DynamicARC®, the first system of its kind in Asia, which continuously delivers proton beams while rotating around the patient through a full 360-degree arc. This technology enables improved protection of normal tissues while further enhancing treatment efficiency and precision.
We are extremely proud that the installation of Proteus®PLUS at Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital marks a significant step toward establishing one of the most advanced proton therapy infrastructures in Asia. Through our continued collaboration with IBA, we remain committed to advancing innovative proton therapy technologies and delivering optimal treatment solutions to medical institutions across Korea. We also look forward to seeing more healthcare providers adopt Proteus®PLUS, expanding patient access to advanced proton therapy.
